United States, 1830: ‘The New World’ is in its ascendancy. Industry is booming, and the race is on to establish the most dominant and powerful rail empire in all of North America. It’s time to outthink and outmaneuver your competitors as you lead your company into the 20th century!

In Railway Empire, you will create an elaborate and wide-ranging rail network, purchase over 40 different trains modelled in extraordinary detail, and buy or build railway stations, maintenance buildings, factories and tourist attractions to keep your travel network ahead of the competition. You’ll also need to hire and manage your workforce if you want to ensure an efficient train service, whilst also develop over 300 technologies ranging from mechanical improvements to the trains themselves to workplace infrastructures and advanced amenities as you progress through five eras of technological innovations.

However, you can’t just build and research your way to the top – the competition never sleeps, and to keep your business on track you’ll have to survive against up to three rival tycoons. To get to the top you may have to resort to more cutthroat tactics as you attack and sabotage your opponents through raids and industrial espionage.

Nice Review! Many of the DLCs also offer multiple paths for their scenarios to take, which increases replayability even more.

I've been playing this game this year and I really love it. The Scenario mode is very difficult for me, I must have tried it 10 times and always failed. I wish there was an easier mode!

Wow! What an awesome review! I love your passion! I'm 43 and grew up on railroad tycoon 1 (And maybev 2) on may amiga. I tried to get into Railroads! But I didn't get the graphics as I was used to 2d! Here as it's free on epic games store and hey maybe I'll try it :) though my son just wants to play super smash bros with me :)

I gave it a try, i didnt like it, the railroad laying ang connecting is a mess, you cannot Esc out from in game windows, weak statistic data management.

I would love if this giat trains/train station feeling would be adressed.For some reason a station is almost the size of a big town.Imagins if the scale would be more accurate how epic a campain would become..or the sandbox....

Got this but I have to say Railroad Tycoon 1 is still king. (yes I know its graphics were weaker than RT2 and 3 but 1 had a lot of features that were sadly omitted from 2 and 3.)

Is it worth it!?!? This is an unbelievably fantastic game, and I've been alive long enough to place Super Mario 1 on the breeze block as a fantastic memory! Soooo much more than just playing with trains! One of THE best games I have ever played! Really recommend getting on a proper console rather than the Switch ( nothing against the fantastic Switch, but it's a game deserving of proper power machine). Cannot recommend this enough!

arent the scenarios and the campain kind of the same thing? love the game (received it free on epic) hate the dlc's. Just want more levels dont really care about other trains or resources its basicly the same anyway.

This game is easy. I dont focus on upgrading my towns, i focus on connecting the towns in small loops of 3-5 towns. I lay 2 tracks and add 2 trains between 2 towns. I usually link 15 towns while the hard AI barely connects 3 towns.

What a hilarious game. I am glad I got it for free, I would've felt really sorry if I spent 30 euros on this hahah.
How can you make a strategy game and without the ability to chose multiple objects at once? It's fun until you have to upgrade 30 trains and one complete railway...
One by one by one .. 30 trains. 4 clicks per upgrade. 120 clicks gone. Following: let's say you have a single lane railway with 20 stops. 20 station upgrades: 60 clicks. 180. Destroying old partial sidetracks: 40 clicks. 220. Adding the new railways: 60 clicks(plus actually a lot of time till you find the most effective ways to do it). 280. Adding signals: 40 clicks. 320 total clicks to upgrade 30 trains and transform a single lane railway with 20 stops into a double one. You can make it quadruple. And you can add 2 sidelines to the quadruple. Can u picture how many clicks is that? And keep in mind it's not just clicking, but a lot of map scrolling and zooming too.

It's so much work that there is no more possible fun after u pass 15 trains and 10 stops.

RT3 was too easy since you could hoard money in the early game through business.

This game ruined my life for 6 months. I couldn't stop playing this game. ......I often start at 8pm and telling myself I would end at 11...and befor eI knew it it was 5am the moring and I debate whether to just go in to work for sleep for 3 hours.

You could selectively upgrade trains in RRT3. And you could buy out your opponents stock and assimilate them. Dont think you could liquidate though.

Good review.. I saw another 2018 review where they had a gripe that you couldn't play the whole USA map from east to west during the whole 100 year span, only play sections from different times during that particular 100 years. Is this still the case or have they changed this with an update??
Also, there is a 'Complete Collection' version (all DLCs and updates), for pre-order on Amazon, due for 07th Aug 2020 release, for £34.99.. Worth a buy?? Thanks..

controls are hard. dont' expect to easily create and delete tracks that easy unlike other railways I played. Problems in rails are hard to know.

how does this compare to RT2? i have yet to find any RR game that came close. this one looks like it focuses to much on riding on the train and town street view, interesting i guess but would get boring very quick. i want lots and lots of biz,train and management option.

Of course it is worth it. Only I think this game is more close to Sid Meier's Railroads than Tycoon series, but still. Lack of multiplayer is disappointing, as I've mentioned it plays more similar to SM's Railroads and cheating AI competition is not somethings fun to play against. One more thing that I dislike is the way auction works. If only they copied how it was made in SM's Railroads would be much practical. Otherwise it's one of the best and most detailed railroad management games we had since Tycoon series.

Obviously this review is biased, must be on their payroll. The game is glitched. The learning curve is steeper that the reviewer states, and the GUI is uselees later in the game.
