For those who don't know the FULL story about this beautiful ANGEL of a woman please read this AMAZING story. Maria won the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games. After she won the medal she was made aware of an 8 month old baby in Poland who needed emergency heart surgery or face certain death. The surgery would have to be done in California and was going to cost $383,000 U.S. dollars. The family was only able to raise half of that amount. Maria IMMEDIATELY decided that she needed to help and put her Silver medal up for auction to raise the remainder of the money need in order for the family to be able to go to Stanford University for the surgery. A Polish supermarket chain called "Zabka" purchased the medal and the family was able to travel to the US for the surgery. After the fact, "Zabka" did the "right thing" and presented the medal back to Maria where it belongs. AMAZING! There are still fantastic people in this cynical world!
