I hope the moderation thing doesn't turn out to be a mistake. I know it can work for some people, and the weed doesn't worry me either since that's not addictive in the same way as the other stuff, but the moderation in drinking does definitely worry me, because I know how easily that can become a slippery slope. I hope it works out.

Elton is literally the only person who didn’t bs the whole time. During this full documentary they spoke a lot of words, but barely said anything....

“Moderation doesn’t work. Sorry! If you drink you’re gonna drink more if you, you know, take a pill you’re gonna take another one. You either do it or you don’t.” I agree completely and totally Sir Elton John.

Someone with a chemically dependent brain chemistry and clearly addictive personality should not be doing or consuming substances in any capacity. I truly admire Demi and pray she doesn’t end up in the arms of the devil again but like Sir Elton John said , moderation doesn’t work.

She literally said it herself. She got a bottle of wine and immediately went off the deep end. Why is she lying to herself now saying she can drink and smoke weed "in moderation" No you can't, honey.

The mom not worried about drinking and smoking because "she knows her limits". Did you not listen to the song Demi wrote? Dancing with the Devil? Also the fact she relapsed AFTER almost dying. I pray for her and see this turning into a tragedy. 🙌

As a person who has been around addicts first hand. Moderation truly doesn’t work. Well let me put it this way it doesn’t work for addicts. It will eventually lead to something worse. And she’s surrounded by people who are telling her yes. I know with addicts and just people in general you can’t tell them what to do but you can encourage them to do something else. I was so proud the first 3 episodes and this just broke my heart.

I honestly thinks she is still using alcohol and weed to calm down her suicidal thoughts just like she did with hard drugs. She really needs to work on her suicidal thoughts and temptations. That’s is how she is going to get better. Drinking and smoking weed won’t because she will always stay ‘in the past’

My brother fought with addiction for 10 years and each time he tried to be sober he would rationalize drinking and within a couple of months he was doing hard drugs each time. I still take a deep sigh and let a couple tears out every time I go to type this out, 09-15-2017, I lost my brother. Addiction sucks, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

All these people being like “GRRRR SHES NOT SOBER THIS SERIES IS A LIE!!”
Like... she’s not claiming to be sober. This isn’t a fairytale with a happy ending “And she never touched the bad things again.”
This is the end of a CHAPTER. A part of her path that SHES STILL WALKING. It’s still a path of growth and movement because recovery from addiction is a neverending process. She still trying to learn and grow.
I have such huge respect for her for making this and I’m not even a Demi fan.

I get the impression she feels guilty about her OD & relapse, but isn’t actually ready to be sober. So, she walks the line - and tries moderation. It appeases her enablers, and relieves her guilt. She feels in control & is still able to indulge - all while feeling guilt free since they all condone her approach. I pray this works for her, and wish her only the best.

I honestly think she's mistaken in her belief that she's in control and thinks that she can touch any of these substances again in moderation. Soon she is going to see herself as former addict and then she's going to think she can try it again because she's no longer an addict. The truth is she will always be in recovery, it's a continual and lifelong process. I really wish her the best and I hope she can beat this but it seems that she still has work to do.
Sarah
Sarah:
Sorry, but whatever Elton John says is pretty much gospel. Moderation doesn’t work. She’s just filling the hole, and the moderation will just creep up and up as her tolerance increases. What happens when she needs a T break? She’ll resort back to the hard drugs.

I was on meth for 3 years straight, homeless with no support. I walked away and got sober on my own. Fast forward a few years to me having my son and getting addicted to the pain meds they sent me home with. That spiraled into a nose-dive and I eventually walked away from that after 7 years. Both times I never went to rehab or had anyone take care of me while I was withdrawing, I had to work and support myself. That was 6 years ago and I have also followed the moderation technique (I didn't know thats what it was until hearing it now) mostly because I dont have money for rehabs or doctors to help with my BPD and PTSD. So I found what works for me and that is smoking weed and drinking occasionally. I have a 12 pack of beer thats been in my fridge for two weeks. I have no desire to use pills or meth again. But I wonder if thats because the weed and alcohol are different that my DOC. My DOC's were always uppers and the high that I get from green and alcohol are downers, I don't know. I just know that it can be done and we should stop with this black and white thinking that everyone is the same.

It has been such an honor to be included in Demi's recovery throughout the years. Unless you've suffered from trauma, mental illness, or substance abuse, you can't understand the crippling emotional pain you face from it and how soul-crushing recovery is. She is so strong. What Demi is doing with moderation is called harm reduction. It is a method used often in substance abuse recovery to allow the client to have agency in their life. Whether Demi stays with weed and alcohol or if she relapses with hard drugs, for now, this is the choice she is making for herself - which is the only way recovery works. If she has a relapse, that is her lesson to learn. There are no mistakes in recovery, just lessons.
Jess

Using in moderation. Okay, ma’am. Maybe there will be a third documentary about how that didn’t work. Hopefully the third documentary isn’t about her life before an OD death.

I was on board with this documentary at the beginning and as I got more of the way through it became clear to me her friends and family are enablers and yes men. Her ‘moderation’ is dangerous and her mum saying she’s ‘in control now’ really ?? This whole thing is just another big album promo. The way she gave her choreographer the chance to ‘tell her story’ (someone’s life who was ruined) was narcissistic to me. I’ve been a Demi fan since camp rock but I really think its time she retired from this life, the attention seeking and toxicity of fame is what her addiction thrives off
Solanum
Solanum:
I’m so happy that she’s better, but as someone who has dealt with addiction, I take her betterment with caution. She has done an entire Documentary in 2018 celebrating herself, her personal growth and as well overcoming her addictions, but shortly after that relapsed and started using Heroin and Crack and then overdosed on Fentanyl. Addiction is a lifelong diagnosis and things can change pretty quickly. I wish her all the best, but I also feel like by mounting this crazy new beginning and her new, better self, she also puts a lot of pressure on to herself.

the problem with this situation is that all these people are essentially employees of demi lovato, even her friends which seem like complete sycophants. Thus she has no real feedback in her life, this is truly scary and why ppl get in trouble. Any truly honest voice that doesn't jump in line with what she wants to be true, won't have a job.
Kim Blank
Kim Blank:
I adore Demi as an artist, she oozes talent. But this docu series leaves me with with such a sour taste. IMO people only change when they are truly remorceful and i just dont get that from her. She doesnt believe in sobriety for herself, she denounces her previous diagnosis, she is basically doing what she wants when she wants but she just wont do hard drugs cause it scared her... i wish for her that this "plan" works, but everyone in her corner saying they are on board with half measures is just feeding the beast and eventually the beast will become too strong to contain... i feel bad for her, because she seems like a beautiful soul but in my lifes experience with mental health and addiction is thats it always ends up all or nothing. I sincerely hope im wrong.
