And another one bites the dust
Oh why can I not conquer love?
And I might have thought that we were one
Wanted to fight this war without weapons

Well, I've got thick skin and an elastic heart,
But your blade - it mightbe too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard,
Yeah, I may snap and I move fast
But you won't see me fall apart
'Cause I've got an elastic heart

I've got an elastic heart
Yeah, I've got an elastic heart

Never heard about the controversy. Always saw a girl trying to deal with her father and losing the battle. Both were amazing in their energy and projection. Love this video.

As a little girl when this music video came out, I thought this was about some psycho singing & dancing. But now, as I am so much older, I understand this message through this video because i’ve lived through it before. Thank you Sia for bringing light and understanding to such a horrible struggle of mine. The lyrics are dashing and the video is absolutely beautiful. Bravo. 👏🏻
This is still one of the best music videos of all time. Incredible song, incredible concept, incredible choreography, incredible performance, incredible filming.

This song never gets old. No matter how much I listen, I never get bored ... ❤
To those who say this is sexual: there is nothing sexual here. It is interpretive art. Meaning it’s up to the viewer to interpret what they see. Only the creator knows its true meaning. (And anyone with mild intelligence can figure it out). So if you see sexuality here, that is your interpretation, and the perversion exists only within yourself.

I was married to an alcoholic for 10 years. I loved him and hated him at the same time. I still love him. And finally I had to get out of that cage. He wouldn’t. This video... I felt this for ten years.

Ever since this song came out it has always been at the back of my mind. Just shows how powerful of an impact it had on me, not only musically but visually.
The lyrics are almost inconsequential, you can see the story shine through merely through the dance. I had an extremely poor relationship with my father growing up, and this video brings me to tears every time I watch it. I remember these feelings, when I was young and my father ran out on us, reconnecting with him when I was an adolescent, watching him repeat his poor life choices and succumb to addiction, trying to save him because, no matter what happened, he was my dad and I loved him and my heart broke for him and the way things could have been in a fairer world.

I'm a father myself, and I look down on my baby boy and vow to never make the same mistakes my father did, but the truth of the matter is, now that I'm older, I can see past my own grief and disappointment and glimpse the man he was, not as a father but as a person. We're all flawed and broken in some way, and I know that despite the things he did and the way he made me feel as a child, there was no malice there, and he was suffering deeply as well.

I love you, dad.

This is the most powerful song to me. I feel like it's my life's anthem. After yet another failed relationship I'm going through, "why can I not conquer love" is when the tears start flowing. Thank you Sia for giving a representation of grief, in the most beautiful way.

This was really beautiful. Shia Labeouf is an incredible actor. They both did an amazing job.
One of my favourite music videos of all time. Makes me tear up every time. The song of course adds that extra level to it. A complete masterpiece. Both Maddie and Shia's acting is phenomenal.
I always get chills when she tries to pull him out of the cage and he starts crying because he knows he can’t leave but doesn’t want her to.

One of the most beautiful music videos ever. The struggle between a father and a daughter. So impeccably well done. Sia is a darn genius.
this is for the real ones that get it... this is ART , plain and simple, no questions asked. not to be understood or broken down to those that don't understand. some people just aren't connected/in tune with their soul/emotions to grasp this type of sensitivity straight up . this song and video is one of my ultimate favorites
Brendan Nkambule

amazing artwork here. to me this is a representation of how we can be close to people yet so far at the same time because our most inner intentions are different and neither one wants to or can let go of the opposing notions that keep us apart even when as our desires for a deeper connection and intimacy burns our souls.
Bored Boy
Bored Boy:
This song is to display how 2 people in a relationship may not act the same. In this case, one is too childish while the other is more mature. Mix it with the music, this is beautifully executed.
This song never fails to make me cry. As a child, who doesn't have a good relationship with their Father, whose an alcoholic and now in prison for his stupid actions, this hits hard.

The choreography is beautiful, I couldnt take my eyes off them. The story they're telling through choreography breaks my heart, even if I'm not quite sure what the story is. I just know she chose to escape trauma, while he had the option to escape. Instead, though, he feels trapped by trauma and couldn't leave. She wants to save him but can't. That's my interpretation, at least.
listening to this song so young i didn’t fully comprehend how deep it is. i can’t listen without crying now & feel butterflies erupt in my stomach. truly a beautiful masterpiece.

i dont know how many times ive seen this video and I will keep seeing it. i had no idea until I saw the comments that people actually criticised it. this is just packed with raw emotions and can be interpreted in so many ways depending on what you are going through. and yes I absolutely love the fact that the cage IS wide enough for Sia to go through but he cant, even that can be interpreted in so many ways of a bad relationship, an addiction, your own mind which you can never leave even though it may be so simple. just amazing
I keep coming back to this. Just soooo much feeling, just sooo much intuit. I am in awe.

Later in life, Sia will be known as one of the most powerful singers ever. And this song will take over again like Kate Bush´s Running up the hill, Trust me on this. it will happen, cause aint no singer today that have that special voice and songs. Especially this one, it freaking makes me cry each time i hear it, cause its so beautiful. And im a pretty damn hard person, and dont get moved that easy. but Sia have that effect on me
Dude This video just has a huge and two people dancing and it's still one of the best music videos I've ever seen. Sia is truly an artist

The fact that this has such a deep meaning and was so beautifully portrayed, for those who don’t know, it had to do with the wolves and a father daughter relationship.
I see Father and daughter. I see nothing sexual between them. It's a profound video. Sad but beautiful.
"But there were so many red flags", "you won't see me fall apart" it took me 10 years to get out of my DV situation and this song represents so much that I went through in that time and after to find myself again.

First time watching this video and is as far the most beautiful artistic and powerful video I had seeing in a long time!! So many mix emotions that this video make me feel. And love the fact of all the possible stories this video can be about. Trauma, love, friendship, survival, vulnerability, overcoming, trust, the warrior on us, that sense on wanting to trust but keeping our guard up of fear to get hurt; wanted to let people fully in but having the uncertainty and back again to lift our walls up for Self preservation, giving love a chance, wanted to help other, over and over again, understanding that we need to help ourselves and in the end is not about giving up on them but try to show them a way to scape, to get to a better place; and realizing that you must get out and help you own self and ones you are out. Not giving up on trying to help them, but this time you are in a much better place!!!

I was abused as a child, this video was very beautiful. It brought me a lot of comfort, all of the inner demons I was fighting to stay alive, it was as if I was always fighting myself, my mind, the pain and the desire to seek comfort in the horrible things. I have since found Jesus, now he fights my battles for me. I'm so thankful.

My take is Shia represents her thick skin and Maddie is her Elastic Heart. Maddie shows her tendencies to be young, naive and passionate while Shia is represented as old and rugged, showing the walls she's built up due to maturity and life. The cage represents the bond between the two states of Sia and are portrayed in a constant state of war trying to exist peacefully.

The video is showing how the youthful passion and enthusiasm we hold on to can contradict the jaded, unhappy adults we usually grow into. Shia stays in the cage in the end despite Maddie (the heart) trying to get him to let go, showing how we limit our own happiness when we get older and lose that enthusiasm for living.

Impossível não chorar sempre que eu volto nesse vídeo eu choro horrores.
The depth of expression in this is IMO deeper than a passive observer can truly comprehend. This is a brilliant artistic expression. The white background. The cage. The beauty of how they both offset one another. The desperation on both of the players faces. The show of strength in the midst of utter desperation. The flesh tones shrouded in dirt. The closeness of the flesh yet the distance of soul as defined through facial expression. The desire bereft of hope lost in imprisonment. Its memorizing. I can't take my eyes off of it.This to me is probably one of the greatest pieces Shia has ever done. And this is an amazing song by Sia. It's arrangement is truly compelling. People will say all good music was made in the 70s 80s and 90s. I would say that's inaccurate. But as far as the whole piece is concerned, to me it is a masterwork of artistic genius.

Omg. This child (now young woman) is soooooo talented. Isn't she insane? She can come out of her shell so much at such a young age. So much emotion. She must be a very emphatic person to be able to put herself into such emotions at that age. And that coupled with this artistic talent. Superstar. She acts like someone who knows 100 percent that what she is is unique 💗💗💗

Art is subjective. If you see something dirty in this, it’s more a projection of your own mind. I saw this video and was reminded of all the men in my family who struggled with mental illness, drug abuse, and alcoholism… and the little girls (my mom and aunts) who tried so hard to get Daddy to come home and stay with the family, but they could never escape that self-made prison.

This is an incredibly powerful piece. There's so much within the dancing that adds to the song itself that it just screams conflict, absolution, and despondency. To fight with oneself internally, to have to find absolutes but never find common ground, and to give up so totally as to have one's inner child screaming for one's adult self to escape the cage, but the adult self being so broken that it can't even find freedom when the answer is pulling it towards the exit... whuff. Beautifully danced, performed, produced, and sung.

Now another one bites the dust
Yeah, let's be clear I'll trust no one
You did not break me
I'm still fighting for peace
I've got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard
I may snap and I move fast
But you won't see me fall apart
'Cause I've got an elastic heart
I've got an elastic heart
Yeah, I've got an elastic heart
And I will stay up through the night
Let's be clear, won't close my eyes
And I know that I can survive
I'll walk through fire to save my life
And I want it, I want my life so bad
I'm doing everything I can
Then another one bites the dust
It's hard to lose a chosen one
You did not break me
I'm still fighting for peace
I've got thick skin and an elastic heart
But your blade it might be too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard
I may snap and I move fast
But you won't see me fall apart

Lots of great interpretations itt. I see the story in this way:
Shaia represents a person (I envision a man) who is “broken”. He is a beautiful human, but is also a monster who can’t control his emotions. Sia sings about her Easton heart and how it can stretch and stretch out of love, but eventually she realizes his blade may be too sharp. Despite loving him, it may be too much. She talks about walking through fire to save her life, yet continues to stay. Maybe out of love, self sacrifice, or obligation. At one point he becomes enraged when she leaves the cage, and she responds to that rage and comforts him. She feels she’s doing the right thing, but she’s only reinforcing the rage. She’s then stuck in the cage of the relationship again. She hits his head multiple times, and we perhaps see the multiple parts of her lover. The silly, the happy, and the angry. It’s the angry she fears, but keeps being drawn back by what he could be. She can leave the cage, but he won’t/can’t. She’s always drawn in, despite the warnings. She finally chooses life because (as she’s said all song…let’s be clear I trust no one.)

there is nothing wrong with this whatsoever, they are clearly telling a story and just because she is a child doesn't mean Shia is a predator, hes not giving off that kind of energy, this is innocent and pure, you can see by the way Shia looks at her, like he wants to build trust with her and protect her and keep her safe. If you perceive it as anything beyond that that's your problem, it simply isn't like that, honestly in the world we live in today such love this pure hardly ever shines through, I feel like they're both brave for being this vulnerable in a world where vulnerability is often taken advantage of
Who else could they have possibly cast for this clip? So so good. Perfect performances.
